Back in 2005, LifeSize Communications brought to the market their HD conferencing solution. The economical answer for the age old need to meet, plan, resolve and just stay in touch without picking up, being away and spending money on travel. Again, in 2007, LifeSize has improved the odds of achieving that goal by improving on their original solution.

Their new solution, the 720p LifeSize Express (720p) sells for less than $6K, which is cheaper than many standard definition video conferencing solutions. This system has dual-input capability and it has HDMI input and output which carries audio. This model comes with microphone, remote and camera.

While its’ big brother the LifeSize Team MP, sells for under $9,000. It has an added 4 way continuous presence multipoint capability and also supports a single camera and display.

The next step up is the LifeSize Room system which supports up to a 6-way continuous presence multipoint VAS. It supports dual cameras and screens. This system has been the LifeSize Communications flagship this year.

The biggest brother is the LifeSize Conference solution which is the “telepresence” level of conferencing. This system consists of two (2) LifeSize Team MP’s, and one (1) LifeSize Room system bound together by a controller. The price tag on this high level teleconferencing comes in amazingly at under $40K.

The New and Improved High Definition 1080p 200 Series Camera

LifeSize Communications recently raised the resolution bar with the new 200 series camera and codec, which also is also available in their LifeSize Team and LifeSize Room videoconferencing systems.

With the ability to process video at either 1080p HD at 30 frames-per-second (fps) or 720p 60 fps HD technology it has overcome the 720p 30fps limit of the last generation of LifeSize telepresence and videoconferencing offerings.

The 720p 30fps HD in the last generation consumed about 1 Mbps in bandwidth whereas the new 200 series codec has reduced bandwidth requirements by 25%, down to a DSL-capable speed of only 768Kbps per screen.

The newer 1080p 30fps and 720p 60fps HD modes consume 1.7 Mbps and 1.1 Mbps per screen respectively, reducing latency between camera, codec, and transmission. This new camera also runs quieter and cooler than the original.
